As I said... My understanding of the brain is it's not the generator or creator of our experiences, except through the physical senses.

Ah.. right.
Well.. that leaves a lot open to interpretation. The 'blissful' sensation could, for instance, be generated by the brain. Not saying it is in all circumstances.. but the brain is capable of producing chemicals and hormones that could produce those feelings independantly of spiritual states of transcendance.
I'm sure a lot of people have and do mistake those physical experiences for spiritual ones. There are lots and lots of people who claim drugs give them spiritual highs. But it is the chemicals in the brain giving them those feelings- a very biological thing.

That refers to sensational experiences and how it happens; neurons firing, electricity and chemical energy caused by interaction with the environment, but where that becomes an intelligently cognised conscious experience as opposed to the physical events is another issue.
