I found something in the woods

My mother died almost seven years ago. She died on the national day of my country, so this day has another kind of symbolism for me, personally. Last year I went to her grave, walking the many kilometers from my old house to the cemetery.

I eventually got there, spent a little time at her grave, marking the sixth year without her. On my way back, I went on a walk in the woods, derailing from my path back home, just walking around too look at things. I got back on a trail that I had been on many times, so I knew the way back home, from where I was at. I walk past some bushes, and to my right I suddenly find a huge boulder. One giant big block of stone. There are a lot of rocks in the woods, but this one was unusual. It was leaning against a tree, that had been deformed and tilted at angle of about 40 degrees from the roots - so it seemed like the stone had been there for a long time, forming this strange looking tree.

I looked at the rock. It was symmetric at both sides, shaped like a human skull. I could clearly spot a nose that was carved in, and below it there was a mouth. There were tool marks on it. The eyes were covered in a huge layer of moss, so it clearly had been there for a very long time. Beneath the moss, I could see circular shapes forming pupils, and there were marks forming eyelids, barely visible. The back side of the stone was buried in the tree it was leaning against, so the chin of the head was buried in the ground around it. Since the rock was leaning up against the tree, I could see what it looked like from underneath. It was just a jagged surface, completely straight. It seemed someone had built a head from a rock and chopped the rock with a drill. That's strange. Why haven't anyone noticed this? How did it get there? It was on a place relatively high up from where people usually would want to live. Even thinking of transporting this many ton big block of stone without major machines is crazy. Yet it was there, and no one noticed.

I don't really know. I just wanted to share this. It's unusual to just find giant human rock heads lying around in the woods. How long have it been there? Maybe 600-700 years? More? Are there more of these around the world, undiscovered? I personally don't know what this meant to me. At the time, I was really excited and I thought of it as some kind of sign. I've been interested in this kind of stuff for quite some time now, so I was amazed to 'make a discovery', no matter how little or big an accomplishment it was.

My thought is that I want a picture. It sounds wonderful. Knowing what country you are in would add some info, I am sure.

How about doing some research? Take photos, visit the nearest library, archives, talk to the locals, all that jazz. Go digging around for the history of the woods. That would be my first move.

That would be the best thing, but I didn't have a camera with me, and I moved to another city shortly after, so I didn't get to capture it. I'm going to take some photos of it once I get back there, it could be worthwhile investigating. I live in Norway :)
