Red Yeast Rice?
Got a question....
I know some people take red yeast rice for lowering cholesterol, but is it safe to take long term?
How long should a person take it, safely?
Is there a recommendation on the amount and duration of use?
Reason I ask....
My Mom has been taking it for some time now and I think she should stop. She is diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and I think it's because she has taken red yeast rice for too long. I wonder if she can stop taking it abruptly or needs to ease off it slowly.
I know that most docs think LDL cholesterol is "bad", but it is not. The only bad cholesterol is oxidated LDL, which is what causes arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Lowering your cholesterol too low can be dangerous, causing dementia and other things, so that's why I'm asking these questions. I want to help my Mom if possible.

Heartburn
Red leavened rice is rice that has been fermented by red yeast, Monascus purpurus. It has been used as a preservative by the Chinese for many centuries. Of all the natural supplements available to help lower cholesterol, red rice yeast extracts are by far the most effective. Monascus purpureus is a source of naturally occurring statins,
Which is the same class of drugs used to reduce and control cholesterol. Because red rice yeast extract contains a mixture of compounds instead of a single molecule that sometimes causes side effects with the drug versions. If you need to lower your cholesterol,
So you will have to continue the red rice yeast extract indefinitely. You will need to periodically monitor your cholesterol and triglyceride levels by your doctor and, if necessary, adjust your dose. The same would be true if you were taking statins - to lower your cholesterol and maintain it at healthy levels, you should continue taking supplements or medications that work for you indefinitely.
You should also know that these drugs inhibit the natural synthesis of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in the body, which is essential for optimal heart health and general health, so whether you take red rice yeast extract or statins, 90/120 Be sure to take milligrams CoQ10 every day. In addition to red rice yeast extract, I also recommend the following measures to help keep cholesterol under control:
Follow my anti inflammatory diet Do aerobic exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Keep your saturated fat intake low: no more than five percent of your daily calorie intake. Increase omega-3 fatty acids, especially from fish. Minimize intake of quickly digested (high glycemic load) carbohydrates. Increase consumption of soluble fiber such as oat bran. Consume garlic, hot red chili (chili), and ****ek mushrooms frequently. Drink green tea regularly.
