The study is flawed. To come to the conclusion that vegetarians are generally less healthy is absurd for many reasons. The test subjects might have stated or identified themselves as vegetarians, but may in fact be more of the cupcake vegetarian variety. In other words, they may not eat meat, but they allow themselves to over indulge in other such things, like desserts.

It could also be that the test subjects were already unhealthy or had the propensity for poor health before becoming a vegetarian.

There is overwhelming evidence that contradicts this study and actually shows throughout the world that humans who "maintain" a varied vegetarian diet are in fact healthier and live longer.

Bruce Lee's diet.

Originally, he drank milk, ate meat, but after he dieted to lower his cholesterol, we read...

"but after he brought his cholesterol down he became a die hard vegetarian."

http://www.complete-strength-training.com/bruce-lee-diet.html

Also, we've learned more about cholesterol since then. How there is both good and bad cholesteol. That, not all cholesterol is bad.
Seems, after his change to vegetarian diet, his immune system was not up to fighting off a flu virus.

Totally untrue. Bruce Lee was never vegetarian. He ate meat every day. What he did eat is highly detailed (information supplied by his wife, who prepared his meals) in the book 'Bruce Lee - The Art of Expressing The Human Body'. See Chapter 20 'Fueling The Dragon'.

The quote does not refer to Lee, but Rob Cohen co-director of 'Enter The Dragon'
"Rob was a changed man afterwards. He became vegetarian. He cut his cholesterol in half and became a die-hard vegetarian."

You are right on that, knight.

Before logging off I had thought about the martial artist who was very lean, and athletic. I should have taken more time to review that.

Meanwhile, here is a Vegetarian website that takes objective view of illnesses of the digestive system involving Vegans.
In the end, what may be born out is that these instances involve genetic traits, as I had cited before.

I'm thinking, with this, about the Ayurvedic diet, which goes over an individual's makeup, involving body type and personal data, and derives from that information the kind of vegetarian diet they ought to subscribe to.

a veggie diet makes the body more alkali.... eating meat, dairy, sugar, white flour and pasta makes the body more acidic and more susceptible to cancer.

A lot of veggies would eat all of the above except meat..

Actually, a macrobiotic diet is no meat, no sugar and no dairy..
