does Western spiritual tradition need defending?
....from the Eastern onslaught?
Is Western spirituality in danger of dying out? Or being engulfed by the Eastern influence?
In a way I think that Western tradition is slightly in danger of losing its balance. I hope that ultimately the Eastern influx will be good for Western spirituality.
That it will strengthen it. But at the moment the East is everything...with the West hardly having a say in the matter.

Really? I truly don't believe that East is everything. I think there is a balance in the West between the East and West spiritualities. But that's my opinion. I Know in my mind I balance the two and niether one crosses out the other.

That is great. But I wonder if you are an exception.

"Western Spirituality" is an oxymoron. The west was engulfed by religious dogma and poisoned and eradicated not only the european pagan/wicca spiritual traditions but the native american spirituality of the new world. The sooner it dies out the better. GOOD RIDDANCE!

I feel that mostly of what we believe in the West is really borrowed from the East, so its like water finding its own level or in this case Truth.

Youy have raised a good point. In fact we need synthesize both and
the best of the east and the west. In fact there are deficiencies in both and in integration we can find the best of the west and east. Of course the east has a greater and older tradition, considering the science of Yoga, meditation and Buddhist teachings that come from the east. But I like so many things in the bible too. Of course the fusion of these two will give rise to something the world is looking forward to

I think that it would be best to let both sides be and choose our own path.
The fact that one seems more "popular" than another shouldn't change anything where spirituality is concerned.
There will always be people who choose to go with the crowd, but there will be those few that go against the flow of spiritual "trends."
Each to their own.

What Western spirituality needs to do is to stop attacking Eastern spirituality.
Then it can look at its own tradition and practices, recover what it once had and is good, and maybe add a thing or two from the East to the benefit of its followers.
As long as there is suspicion and judgment of the East all the energy goes into that. That is the low road which goes downhill all the way.

Globalisation is a double edged sword. The east influences western thought and vice versa.
All the beliefs are cultural phenomena anyways. Currently, India is just the Mecca of the New Age movement. It might be China or Africa in the future..
There's a rise in ''individual'' approaches towards spirituality in the west, but honestly I think this has more to do with the individualization of society, then with eastern thought.
