Greetings and Salutations

Hello, my name is John. I'm a twenty-two year old from the middle of Alaska, and I'm considering converting to Wicca.

All my life I've known there was much more to the world than what we could perceive with our five senses, and psychic/paranormal phenomena seems to run in the family. My mother, my brother, my sister, and myself are all psychic to varying degrees; dad, not so much unfortunately, kinda freaks him out. I feel kinda bad for not being able to live up to the kind of son he wants me to be. He's a world renown big-game hunting guide, as well as former military; he's a tough legend to live up to.

I feel rather fortunate though for ending up with the parents that I did; my mom is over 65 years old and was one of the founding mothers of the Hippie Movement back in the sixties, she's very much in favor of Earth-centered spirituality; loves gardening and philosophizing and ancient mysteries; she taught me how to be spiritual. Dad is a combat action and gun expert, tough as nails, hardcore. He taught me how to escape from bad guys, how to shoot guns in a tactical situation, how to fight like my life depended on it, and how to survive in the middle of the wilderness with limited supplies. Mom gave me all my Yin and Dad gave me all of my Yang haha.

To Initiate myself into the Craft of the Wise, I feel I should combine both the disciplines of my mother and father, by spending a Year and a Day in the wilderness, bringing nothing with me, making all my tools from nature Herself. On Samhain 2018, I'm planning on walking into the jungle completely Skyclad to begin my journey.

In the meantime, I plan to spend as much of my time as possible refreshing my knowledge of the skills that I'll need. Flintknapping and Woodcraft would be at the top of the list; with that I can make some basic stone tools, a shelter, and fire. I'll also have to bone up on Edible Plants and Insects so that I can always have a food supply at the ready. Drinkable water is fairly easy to find via freshwater streams flowing over the rocks, or fresh pools of rainwater collected in the indentations of rocks, or in leaves; some flowers even form a cup shape the catch all the water, but also insects, seeing as those flowers are carnivorous, (the insects land on the pedals of the flower, but slip on the moisture, down into the cup of the flower, where it eventually dissolves and gets ingested by the flower). So beautiful...yet so deadly hahaha. XD Eventually I want to get to the point where I can mine, smelt, and forge my own metals tools and jewelry, using stone tools at first. The first thing I'll want to forge is definitely going to be a hammer lol. XD
