Memories

This might sound weird, but where are memories stored if not in the brain, and how come they survive death?

Believing that memories are somehow stored in the brain is like believing that radio programs are somehow stored in the radio.

While we are in the physical body we use the brain to retrieve memories into conscious awareness, just as we tune the radio to a particular station. And if the brain is damaged then this interferes with our ability to recall things, just as a damaged radio may not pick up any stations.

But memories are stored in more subtle aspects of our being and so they survive physical death.

Peace.

Memories are on the mental plane; we as human beings exist simultaneously on many planes at once, a physical plane, emotional plane, mental plane, spiritual plane, etc. When your physical body dies whether you retain your memories or not depends on the plane which you ascend to. There are spiritual planes where you have no memories or desires, no past or future, no thoughts, etc. Memories and desires often work together; but we will always exist in the moment, the here and now, so your memories may or may not be part of your after human life experience. For many when they die this human life appears as a faint dream, and our memories of this human life are often used as a teaching tool in the afterlife. But again, it depends on the work which we have done on ourselves here on Earth as to what realm we might ascend to after leaving this earth.

Nobody is sure and there's a lot of speculation about it. It used to be that memories were stored in the brain, but nowadays it's more likely that the brain is more of a storage/retrieval mechanism than the storage itself. The general consensus of opinion is that memories are stored 'externally'. According to Penrose and Hameroff the brain has quantum-capable micro-tubules, so for all we know our noggins are in a quantum entanglement with...... Well, who knows? Quantum entanglement would explain so much, such as intuition, mediumship and Gnosis for instance. It would also explain how we have memories after death - and near-death experiences. Nassim Haramein says that we are in a consciousness loop with the field of probability.

Hi,

As energetic beings I would say that memories are stored in the soul. When in the physical body these memories are also retained in our DNA. That makes them more easily retrieved.

Perhaps it's worth pondering how past life information / memories become known to us while in our present incarnation..

If some like to think that memories are stored solely within the brain then it wouldn't be possible for past life memories to arise.
