High School Cliques
I was in a class engaging with a familiar hobby, friendly with a small number of people. Then, it was time for a break. We were all instructed to walk down the hall and exit the building. I was one of the last people exiting the building in front of the tutors before I realised I had returned to high school.
I walked around outside where masses of people were sat in all directions. They were each in their own cliques, each clique representing a different interest. As I wandered around, acknowledging that I didn't have an interest in many of the cliques I passed, I sought the small number of people I spoke to in the class. I felt the weight of being back in high school, someone who may tag with a group but not really feel part of it. When I did find those familiar faces, they were sat with no spaces between them while bordering other cliques. There was no room for me.
I continued on around the area and around a large wall, acknowleding yet more cliques in which I wouldn't belong, again because I didn't share their interests. In the distance in a sporting area of the grounds, there seemed to be a contest in which people could win what seemed to be credits/money. It was a lottery of sorts. I remember the credits being represented by purple coins as I looked at the jackpot on a screen (possibly a phone screen). I immediately thought to myself that if I were to win, then everybody would be interested in me. They'd come to me, rather than have me looking for them.
I entered some indoor areas where I eventually made some songs to be entered into the contest. I created three songs in three different genres, my idea being that by creating something in these different styles, I could appeal to everybody rather than a single group of individuals and avoid being identified in only one way when in reality I had more than one interest. This is an interesting contrast to my experiences with the cliques and their interests, trying to find a single place to fit.
