Definitely. I'm very much into dance which allows an exchange, an offering of the energies to the Spirit(s)/spiritual plane, and their responding with their currents back to you that seem to come as a heightened awareness of the sensuous body and its connection to the spiritual plane (among other gifts, such as the insights brought through meditation and pathworking).
Nice.

Furthermore, I feel like I attract more attention from others when I am exercising.
I know that many people find their their spirituality is 'fine tuned' through meditation, etc, but is it also possible for physical exertion to bring about those same feelings?

Yes, I experience this also. I exercise a lot and push myself hard. I have got to the point where I can get into a meditative state while exercising which helps push me past limitations and pain barriers.
And in regards to getting attention from others. If you are a woman training in a gym with guys, you will get attention :/ maybe this is down to the fact that you are 'glowing' with vibrant energy or maybe it is just because you are female lol

I do feel that running is just as good as meditation, also I do feel more connected to spirit and well grounded when exercising outdoors.

Yes, exercise can increase spiritual energy and make us more 'tuned in'.
There's lots of things going on here. Physically, exercise stimulates the production of endorphines, opium like chemicals in the brain. Then there's the fact that the physical exertion is flushing out toxins and moving good energy around the body, and more oxygen.
So that's the physical bit, but mentally, exercise is a form of deep meditation. To meditate effectively, we don't need any fancy postures or anything. All such things are there to help focus the mind and to improve blood circulation. Exercise does both of these very, very effectively. If you're working out/playing sport to the best of your ability, you're not thinking about the bills, or what's for dinner, etc. You are focused, 100%.
If you exercise in a large group, then you get to share energy with those around you, and if you exercise outdoors in a very natural setting (by the sea, in the woods etc) then you get the even greater energy of nature.

I can vouch for exercise having that kind of an effect to an extent. I tried Zumba for the first time yesterday and it was a blast.
The lack of experience was not a bad thing though, in fact it kept me focused, and I found myself trying my hardest to nail down the moves. And despite my deplorable attempts at the footwork, I still felt good afterwards. This is signficant because I lean towards perfectionism, and if I'm not perfect, I've failed and I start hating on myself wishing I were better, etc.
And when I awoke the next day, my meditation session right after waking up further brought me to a small epiphany, (though still no sign of my spirit guide or angel, sobbu) for the good vibes were still there and carried me all the way through work as well.
