I don't think this changes very much about the Buddhas validity or his teachings. As every age has their own enlightened ones to show the path of the Buddha. The Buddha lives on in all of us. And anyone can bring it out given the time and cultivation.
All that changes is the time-line in which the Buddha was born. That is all.
To sum it all up.
"Until now, archaeological evidence favored a date no earlier than the third century B.C."
Buddha's birth place was more like. "Dating fragments of charcoal and grains of sand, researchers determined that the lower structures were erected as early as the sixth century B.C."
