Yes I do feel that with Bittersweet Symphony too.

I have never felt such a strong immediate reaction to a song as to this song... it could literally have been written straight from my soul, every word is just filled with me.. when I first heard it I was moved to tears within the first few verses; as line after line of painfully honest poetry from my own heart travelled through me. It was intense and cleansing and healing.

Not a song, but, IMHO, the most beautiful piece of music ever written.

Rachmaninov's 2nd piano concerto, 2nd movement, Adagio

Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring has always resonated strongly with me. Also the Fantasia movie sequence for it was pretty cool too.

Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera is pretty much how I've felt about music and darkness all of my life. But prefer Anthony Crivello singing (or me). He gives it that tinge of madness and aggression that I feel is more representative of the Phantom's inner turmoil.

And a lot of Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, Queensryche, I could probably go on forever with 80s metal, and its 90s/00s equivalent "Power Metal".

Also a lot of Marilyn Manson's more ballady stuff. Man that you Fear, Minute of Decay, Great Big White World, etc.

And I really like diminished scales, mostly E. I can improvise in E Diminished on guitar (piano and bass guitar would be awesome too but don't have access to them right now) and that's meditative for me.

I'm drawn towards light-filled yet intense, impetuous soundscapes that resonate with my inner urge for beauty, Love and freedom - I guess that's one of the reasons why I appreciate metal (even though my taste in music is rather eclectic - I range from the most obscure underground Black Metal to Frank Sinatra and beyond). But mostly, this is what captures my heart in a song.

This song hit me like a ton of bricks a little while ago.

Watching and Waiting - Moody Blues

Watching and waiting
For a friend to play with
Why have I been alone so long
Mole he is burrowing his way to the sunlight
He knows there's some there so strong

Cos here there's lot of room for doing
The thing you've always been denied
Look and gather all you want to
There's no one here to stop you trying

Soon you will see me
Cos I'll be all around you
But where I come from I can't tell
But don't be alarmed by my fields and my forests
They're here for only you to share

Cos here there's lot of room for doing
The things you've always been denied
So look and gather all you want to
There's no one here to stop you trying

Watching and waiting
For someone to understand me
I hope it won't be very long

The temper trap - sweet disposition
Civil twilight - letters from the sky

Both thought provoking and beautiful

"Another Time"
By Tom Rapp

Where have you been to?
Where did you go?
Did you follow the summer out
When the winter pushed its face in the snow?
Or have you come by again
To die again?
Try again another time

Did you follow the Crystal Swan?
Did you see yourself
Deep inside the Velvet Pond?
Or have you come by again
To die again?
Try again another time

When you set to shape the world
was the shape the shape of you?
or did you cast enchanting glance
through the eye that all men use?
Or have you come by again
to die again?
try again another time

Did you find that the Universe
Doesn't care at all?
Did you find that if you don't care
This whole wrong world will fall?
Or have you come by again
To die again?
Try again another time

Did you ever capture
All those jewels in the sky?
Did you find that the world outside
Is all inside your mind?
Or have you come by again
To die again
Try again another time
