Why noon-time "dead time" daily?

I've had this weird "dead time" thing going on now for several years--ever since I had a long illness. I get up feeling well but around noon I get this almost narcoleptic sleepiness, eye sensitivity. I usually fall asleep then and don't wake until an hour or so later.

My blood sugar, insulin response are normal. I have, if anything, low blood pressure and tend to low body temps (96) at night and other times, although this has improved.

This is the only part of this 4-year illness that I haven't gotten a handle on. I don't really understand it.

I have varied when/what I eat--eating in morning, having just latte in the morning, eating nothing till after noon. It happens when I do a long walk/run or when I don't. It happens if I am tired or have been inactive for a long time.

The light sensitivity is something that coincides with times that third eye is open--I see "orb" and "thoughtform clouds" at this time. It lasts for about 5 minutes and then is usually over. It doesn't lead me to meditation--just to nothing.

So, physically, spiritually--I don't understand it. I'm pretty aware of health/medical possibilities. What am I missing here?

No idea but it could be a habit - we get used to having a nap and that can be a hard cycle to break. For me, if I want a weekend nap, I eat a load of dried fruit and snooze for the universe.

But, in all, you should speak to the doctor about it?

Been there, done that--every specialist: gynecologist, endocrinologist, neurologist--in addition to the regular GPs.

I've recently done a "refeeding" diet for people who have a history of metabolic disorders, over-dieting, eating disorders, etc. One of the symptoms is cold hands and feet, low body temps, and a few other things. It helped raise my temps and find more long-lasting energy.

The nap isn't exactly habit--because my eyes become so light-sensitive, I have to cover them up with a dark shirt. I wish it didn't happen because it makes me feel totally unproductive in a day. Hard to get any large projects done this way.

Oh sorry - what about an eye specialist? (Clutching at straws)

It sounds really debilitating.

Belle--

Thanks. Not the worst thing in the world--I used to not be up at all! But it's annoying. Jobs like getting painting done and stuff like that takes the day to do.

Yes, as a matter of fact, my eyes improved 275 points (less near-sighted) in one eye and 175 in the other--after getting more a more near-sighted all my life. They saw no problems otherwise.

The eye sensitivity stuff is not new to me. I've had it most of my life. I don't have migraines but I think it is related to that kind of feeling. If I cover up, I'm OK. It's almost like being forced to "communicate" or stop for a while. But why?

My daughter has what are called aural migraines in that her vision waivers. It is a series of symptoms that does end up in a migraine for her.

P.S.--

In just looking up what my daughter has (because I forgot the term), I found a site that talks about something called Migraine Equivalents (ME):

The most common migraine aura symptoms are those of visual aura although other senses, as in sensory aura, may be involved.

Diagnosing migraine aura without head pain

Migraine aura without pain, also called “migraine equivalent” or ME, has visual symptoms or changes in the other senses that fully go away after a short while. Typically symptoms gradually build up over five to 20 minutes – this is sometimes referred to as the “march” of symptoms – and then go away completely after about an hour. However, what sets it apart from other types of migraines with aura is that no head pain sets in within an hour of the aura symptoms. Also, no other disorder can be found to be blamed for the symptoms.

Who gets migraine aura without head pain

Some people experience head pain with some of their migraine attacks and then have other attacks where the pain is absent. There are others that only have migraine aura without head pain with each attack. Many times as people age, their migraine attacks may change their characteristics. In some cases, the head pain may start to lose its strength or sometimes disappear completely while the aura symptoms may continue. Therefore, migraine with aura without head pain is more common in older migraine sufferers. The most common symptoms among older people are visual aura symptoms more so than other symptoms. Some people only experienced migraine aura without headache and this occurs more often in men than in women.

Interesting. Earlier in life it was related to hormonal changes (or all signals from hypothalamus--calcium, estrogen, sodium, etc.).

Do you have any caffeine in the morning with breakfast?.. noon / just after noon is usually when I crash from a caffeine low. I've noticed if I don't have any caffeine in the morning I don't end up crashing in the afternoon.

Shiro--

Yes, I do have coffee in the morning and occasionally I have another one around 10:30 to noon. It doesn't seem to stop the crash, although I can do more experimenting to make sure. It's a good idea.

I take a particular amino acid every 3 hours to counteract other symptoms i have going on. I have thought before that maybe I don't need them during lunchtime. Just recently I (again) tried stopping taking them. At first I had a few positive things increasing but dead time didn't stop. Eventually, I was a mess after a week and just started them again.

Even with supplements that are basically food (building blocks of all proteins), I don't like having to take anything.

Thanks for the idea. I will test it some more to make sure.

This could be a blood-sugar thing? Try oats and banana for breakfast? Or something with a low glycemic index. Banana is also good as it is a complex carb, and energy from those carbs lasts longer.

Or could be a serotonin imbalance. Get plenty of daylight and sunshine during the hours of the day (if possible -and within reason. If it's intense hot sunshine where you live be sensible)

Sleep....do you get good quality sleep during the night? Do you sleep at least 7-8 hours? Do you wake a lot? Toss and turn? Check temperature is cool in your bedroom, no light, no noise. If there is noise, wear ear-plugs. Keep shades/curtains closed.

Tobi--

Yes, after the comment about the coffee (latte), I did an experiment this morning and didn't eat until 2pm. and about a 1/2 hour later I got very sleepy.

I have never had a bad blood sugar reading, during the worst of this. It almost seems like an intermittent thing because when I eat later in the day (7-8 pm) I don't get sleepy.

I also remember when I was doing that metabolic diet that they told you to make sure you had high caloric, high carb, high sugar stuff first thing in the morning to bring body temps up (and it is when my temps are low). When I did that, I'd hit my "dead time" about 10:30--3 hours later. So it does have something to do with blood sugars somehow.

I always get 8 hours or more and usually 2 hours in daylight when I walk/run.

I'm doing more research to see if there is such a thing as being insulin-resistant only intermittently.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Lora
