Awake, Third Person Perspective
While awake, I made an attempt to see myself in a third person perspective. I kept my eyes open, and, using the mind's eye, began to pan back from my head until I had obtained the third person perspective. Then, maintaining a calm pace, I tried to strengthen the image, and move my physical body while maintaining the view. That was the tough part. Even the slightest physical movements fought to pull me from the image. My goal was to be able to move my body and maintain awareness of my surroundings while keeping said perspective strong.
I didn't get too far with it, but I did notice a few interesting things. I thought of it like gaming in that I would become the master controller with the ability to control the character (me) from an external point of view. What I did notice in my attempt was that there was a strong sense of detachment. I felt like I had more control over my actions, despite being "outside", because I had detached from emotions, fears, and other feelings. I suppose it's like thoughts in general in that we can more than easily imagine ourselves facing a fear because we're not actually facing the fear. That's the type of detachment I felt. But a key part of my aim was, as said, to be able to maintain the image while still being able to physically navigate around my surroundings. It would be like people being able to do everything as normal while deeply daydreaming, and let's be honest, that's not an easy task (at least in my mind). But that was my aim, and I'm intrigued enough that I'll keep on trying it.
Has anybody done this? It wasn't quite astral projection, but a strong sense of awareness while focusing on the images in the mind.
