Hello all,
My boyfriend just recently moved to Canada from the UK so we can start our lives together. The only problem is he's still awaiting an invite to apply for the actual visa part.
We had looked at Student visas and trying to get a invite from an employer to work (which he had got one, but after some investigating from that employer they said they couldn't sponsor an employee at the moment because of the war in the Ukraine). So our final attempt was the Working Holiday Visa.
The way it works is you put your name in a pool then it's drawn randomly from everyone else that also put their name in. Like pulling names from a hat. Once your name gets "pulled" you get an invitation to apply for an open work permit that lasts two years.
We went on a trip to the UK a few months ago. He applied before we left, got invited two days after we arrived in the UK, but unfortunately the police report he needed didn't come in until after his invite expired. So it was too late to apply for the work visa.
He applied for an invite again as soon as we got back home which was the 8th of September and we're still waiting for another invite again.
I know what I have to do - I need to detach from the situation like I did when we were travelling. We had tried almost every other avenue and the working holiday was our last resort because it didn't look too promising at first so when he applied I was thinking "eh, whatever, we're on our trip right now it doesn't matter anyways, we'll deal with it when we get back." And of course when it feels like it doesn't matter, he gets it.
Now when it does matter it seems like its taking forever. They choose people randomly from the invite pools so it truly is just a waiting game.
What can I do to help myself detach from this situation and help it come faster. The deadline is in 7 days. I'm waiting for a miracle.
Any tips would be very much appreciated!
