The world and humanity are the lost.
Question is, lost from what? From where?
"For all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory."
Jesus is the atoning Lamb of God, according to scripture, come to pay for the, "sin of the world".
"...The just for the unjust, to bring us to God."
Think about what modern science tells us today about the "illusory" material world.
Including this temporary organic situation we are in, evolved through time.
