I'm not very comfortable with these concepts of dominance and taking charge or controlling the mind, because it's a part of me. When I say I want to get unstuck I want to help the mind be free, not be free from the mind. I realize that I shouldn't be attached to my mind, but you shouldn't be attached to a child that you love either.

Loving your mind is a way to get free of its dominance, because there is You loving your mind rather than identifying with it as 'me'.
It's choosing rather than controlling.

The problem isn't that the mind is dominating me, it's that the mind needs healing. If someone I cared about was acting upset, I wouldn't be telling them 'I don't want to identify with you', or try to be free from them. The person isn't dominating me, the person is in pain and needs help.

I see what you mean. On the other hand, if someone is in pain you don't let them dump it all over you, which is often what we allow the mind to do. Detachment with compassion works for me.

I think if I'm in a relationship with someone who always dumps their problems off on me, it's because I'm allowing that to happen. As for the mind, the problems it has are my responsibility, I can't just walk away from it. I have to find a way to help it.

Since it seems you aren't hearing what I'm saying, I see these as relevant to our conversation, Seawolf:
“To understand everything is to forgive everything”
"When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.”
- the Buddha

You and mind are one.. mind never dominates, that belief is simply a misunderstanding of 'what you are'..

Osho said "mind is not diseased - mind IS THE DISEASE". He was correct.

I agree that understanding is about love and forgiveness. That's probably the whole basis of understanding. Anger seems to hide in the shadows, but understanding engages and mediates. The problem is always in my mind so that's why it's a good place to start practicing mediation to resolve things.
The problem is in my mind, but my mind isn't the problem, unless I start saying it is. I don't want to talk that way about a part of myself though.
