Yeah, it's tricky when they slip back in, or worse, fall asleep once they are out. :(
When I was a kid, I used to pull my older sister out all the time. Sometimes, as I was out and about, I could hear my sister yell for help in getting out, she'd say she was stuck. Sometimes I could get her out, other times not. I found with my SO, it's been incredibly difficult to pull him out. He tends to fall asleep and I don't know how to wake a person up who's sleep projecting. I understand the feeling of wanting your family to experience it as well. I feel similarly.
On a side note, I've noticed people as a whole project a whole lot more than they are aware of. Have you contacted a person in Astral form, then when you meet the person, they have a sense of deja vu or that they know you from somewhere but not sure where?
