The Badger and The Fox in mythology

Let me tell you of the badger and the fox in Celtic legend. I do this to honour these two ancient inhabitants of Britain, now under threat by the worst vermin of all - Mankind.

The Badger :
The badger is one of the strongest woodland animals. Badger is close to the earth and dwells within it, making elaborate setts underground. One of the lessons of the badger is how to maintain your integrity and strength when everything seems set on pulling you down and the opposition is overwhelming. Badger draws his power from his closeness to the earth. Badger also knows the secrets of the earth, digging and delving into his underground home. He knows the importance of a retreat within.
Badger is a powerful familiar. An ancient dweller of "Albion" and knows all it's secrets - the sacred places of the land and the energies of all of them. He understands the power of all that grows within the earth. Badger is a warrior and it is the warrior's path that he teaches. His weapons are his own body, his mind, and his spirit. The Will of the badger in centered, grounded, and unshakeable. His courage is mighty.

The Fox :
The fox is another ancient inhabitant of Britain - cunning, wily, and clever enough to adapt to any environment be it woodland, moorland, mountain, or city. Very old foxes were said to have pearls of wisdom in their heads. The red coat of the fox and it's swiftness make it an emblem of fire and the sun. However, it is also a burrowing animal and a familiar guide to the Underworld, associated with the journey of the sun through the netherworld and it's emergence at the Winter Solstice. The Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis, are known as FoxLight.

These were part of the lessons taught to young Celts. We would be all the poorer if they were not with us.

Wonderful post, dear Norsey. Friend of the badger and the fox!

This is so beautiful, norseman. Thank you.
There are so many badgers and foxes where I live. I love them very much, as I love all the wildlife. I have found no imbalance here when things are left alone, with the exception of fewer honey bees, which is directly caused by Humans.

I am afraid about the badger cull, and hope it will be stopped.
