Anyone have a name?
Years ago I took a world religion class. We discussed the major religions: Hindu, Islam, Christian, Buddhism. The last "religion" we discussed was not in a book but in a packet printed from the internet & handed out by the professor. I can't find the packet, nor can I find the site. The header on the packet was titled: The Religion of No Religion.
The premise was this: We make spiritual contracts to fulfill every experience one could experience on the earthly plane in order to ascend 7 spiritual planes. Based on the contracts you may ascend or descend on these planes and you will not reach the 7th plane until you have experienced everything. In some life time you will be murdered & in another you will be a murderer etc. And you make these contracts with other souls before being reincarnated so that you both can fulfill your obligation to experience all.
Wondering if anyone else has heard of this & if their is a name for this set of beliefs?
Thanks!

Hey I just wrote about that in another thread: Believing in that which involves nothing that requires believing. Following the tenets of that which has none. The religion of no belief. It was actually in relation to Taoism as the ideal religion, given it doesn't involve religion of any kind. And to be clear, when I speak of religion I mean the dictionary definition: a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects.
All that said, even Taoism is doesn't fit my parameters because it's a "something" and not a "nothing at all." Although any Taoists here would probably argue that. And I feel I need to add: I am not a nihilist. When I say nothing at all, I mean the path to spiritual understanding has little to do with adopting beliefs and tenets. It's the individual experience that is the path to soul growth and spirit understanding. Life is not a nihilist black void. Life is a glorious light-filled miracle. We are here to learn and joyfully participate in that miracle. And yes, that is a belief of sorts. But that's pretty much the extent of my beliefs, so I think I'm doing pretty good with this "no belief" concept.

You're describing esoteric, occult (hidden) streams of philosophical thought. Esoteric philosophies can be traced back as far as the world's religions. They're just not as well-known because they're not mainstream enough for most people. With esoteric philosophy, you have to do the work, you have to study and experience and make the spiritual connections. Whereas most people prefer someone - a guru or priest - to tell them all that, that's why religion is much more popular. Also, the two primary beliefs - the most important and critical aspects really - in esoteric philosophy are karma and reincarnation, neither of which the world's religions speak of. The two most recent manifestations of esoteric thought are Theosophy and Anthroposophy. Unfortunately they're both esoteric Christian-oriented, which I have no real interest in, but if you can get past that they both have lots to offer as far as your question goes.
