Just went and saw Rise of the Planets of the Ape last night, the remake of the 1972 movie Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
For a remake it was done very well. They changed the general plot line, which makes since Conquest was the fourth movie in a series so there was no back story there for Rise. But they kept many of the same key elements, and used several of the names: For example they named another ape Cornelius which in the original was the name of Ceaser's (the main ape) father. They also called Ceaser's mother Bright Eyes in the movie, which was the name given to Taylor in Planet of the Apes (the first movie in the original series).
They also put several moments in Rise, that watchers of the original Planet of the Ape series would recognize as being done: i.e. the popular water hose seen between Taylor and a gorilla guard in Planet of the Apes, and the scene of when the first ape says 'No!' in Conquest.
Another very neat thing they did in the movie was they made several analogies between the chimpanzee Ceaser and the human leader Julius Ceaser about how these two characters were both alike and different.
I have not heard anyone yet say that they disliked anything about this film, and it is defiantly a must see if you like reflective/conversational/action pieces.
