SMILING
Because everything is in balance does this mean there has to be as much frowning as smiling in a persoN?

I think smiling is the result of balance at any one time. So frowning would not be a good way of representing balance.

Apparently my personality type has what is known as a "death glare". It usually has nothing to do with death, neither our own or anyone else, and rarely signifies a bad mood at all. If anything, people like me look the grouchiest when we're in the best moods. We just get so deep in our awesome thoughts that we choose the most energy-efficient option: neither smiling nor frowning.
My point? What really matters is your face on the inside. Who cares if you APPEAR happy, as long as you ARE? Smiling too much makes my face start to hurt and twitch. And when I smile, it makes people more uncomfortable than when I blankly stare through their soul. Police are also statistically LESS trusting of people who smile in ID cards and driver's licenses.

Hi august,
I can't stop laughing when I read the OP, my imagination just run wild
As I understand your post
Balance is negative = positive emotions
How can you smile and frown at the same time

Balance for me, is not the negative and the positive in life, it is the balance in all aspect of life itself.
You balance your way of thinking, you balance your health by eating healthy and avoiding bad habits, you balance your time, energy, finances, relationship, spiritual aspects by being compassionate and acceptance of co-existence.
We are not bound to balance the negativity if we can change, prevent, banish, or avoid or just cope with it in our life.
We have our free will to choose what is good for us and what will inspire us to uplift our life and not to just embrace what is making our life miserable.
And when everything is balanced, you feel the joy and contentment.
And that will keep me smiling.
Still life is what we make it.

I agree. A relaxed facial expression isn't necessarily a sign of being in a foul mood. Smiling or frowning is a waste of personal energy. Besides I'm in a good mood 99% of the time and deeply focus in thought. Therefore my facial expression doesn't reflect my true inner feelings most of the time.

I have a hard time smiling unless I find something funny. Is that normal?

The feeling of love can make you smile all day like you are in cloud 9 but it doesn't mean that there is balance.
Negative emotions like frowning is so infectious, you can observe that it affects easily the surroundings.
