HYENA POWER ANIMAL

HYENA POWER ANIMAL

Hyena, are carnivorous, chiefly nocturnal mammal of the Old World family Hyaenidae. Although doglike in appearance, hyenas are more closely related to civets (family Viverridae) and cats (family Felidae) than to dogs (family Canidae). The front legs of a hyena are longer than the hind ones, giving the back a sloping appearance. Despite their reputation as scavengers, hyenas are also skilful hunters; they can crush bones with their strong teeth and jaws. They sleep by day, in caves or burrows. Hyenas range over most of Africa and SW Asia.
Three species are generally recognized. The spotted hyena, of Africa is the largest and boldest species; it stands 21/2 ft (76 cm) high at the shoulder and has a grey coat with irregular patches. It is also known as the laughing hyena, because of its cry, which resembles maniacal laughter. Often abroad in the day as well as at night, it pursues game in packs and even invades camps and villages in search of food. The females are dominant and more aggressive, outranking the males in the pack. The smaller striped hyena of Asia and N Africa and the brown hyena, or strand wolf, of South Africa is shyer and more nocturnal and solitary in their habits. The former is greyish brown with darker stripes; the latter is dark brown over most of the body.

In East Africa, Tabwa mythology portrays the spotted hyena as a solar animal that first brought the sun to warm the cold earth, while West African folklore generally shows the hyena as symbolizing immorality, dirty habits, the reversal of normal activities, and other negative traits. In Tanzania, there is a belief that witches use spotted hyenas as mounts. In the Mtwara Region of Tanzania, it is believed that a child born at night while a hyena is crying will likely grow up to be a thief. In the same area, hyena faeces are believed to enable a child to walk at an early age, thus it is not uncommon in that area to see children with hyena dung wrapped in their clothes.
The image of striped hyenas in Afghanistan, India and Palestine is more varied. Though feared, striped hyenas were also symbolic for love and fertility, leading to numerous varieties of love medicine derived from hyena body parts.

Hyena unlike most other animals is not a permanent personal power animal, Hyena appears every now and then to shake us up when we get too content in our outlook of ourselves and others, when we least expect to be roused from our comfort zone. The Hyena represents the maniac within us all, we all have it within us to go to the dark side of our minds, No person is immune from this.

Hyena’s message is this. Anger, rage, aggression they are all part of each of us, why do we see them as negative traits? is it because we have been programmed to see things as good or bad, dark or light, negative or positive. Can’t all these traits be useful to us at different times in our lives? It is alright to get angry, it is alright to feel rage, it is alright to be aggressive we are not robots and we are not perfect. We need to let the dark side through, otherwise things fester inside and eat us up. They eat us up like hyena scavenges over the dead bones of an animal.

Laughter is a tonic to us all. We should all laugh like a Hyena just for the sake of it. We should also howl when the need arises and not be inhibited by what others think. Grief comes like a thief in the night and like a visit from Hyena we are never prepared for it. Yet grief is as much a part of life as birth, birth, and death are part of the cycle of life as much as night and day.

Shake yourself up a little, look in the mirror and what do you see? A scavenger? A maniac? An angry person? An aggressive person? Can you accept these traits as part of you and rather than try and hide them, try and embrace them as part of who you are? There are no nice or bad people there are just people.

If Hyena resonates with you then be grateful to Hyena for showing you who you really are. If you do not like yourself then how do you expect others to like you? What you do with what you have seen of yourself is up to you, no one else can change anyone, change comes from within.

The moon lights up the sky at night, it illuminates and affects the tides and everything that is composed of water. Water always finds its own level but is affected by the moon. As the moon affects water, we all affect each other. There has to be a balance between what we show to the world, the mask and who we really are under it. Hyena in this case is like the moon it is showing us a path through the parts of life that we would rather ignore.

Dark energy does not like the light, light energy does not like the dark, it seems there is no difference between the two since they both fear something in each other. Unconditional love embraces all of a person not just the parts we like.

Characteristics: Anger, aggression, grief, thief, immortality, acceptance, mania, cycle of life, moon, negativity, fear.
