Ladybug hibernation time

For the past few days I have had a ladybug in my sitting room. When I first noticed it on my pullover I allowed it to run freely on my desk top. It would show up on the computer screen, or inching it's way across an open book, or surreptitiously moving along the edge of the table - here and there.

I let it walk onto my finger and took it out onto the balcony, coaxing it to walk onto the balcony ledge. However, it preferred to walk the opposite way, back along my finger towards my arm. So I brought it back indoors and gave it the freedom of the flat.
Later I would see it on the wall or a curtain or a kitchen work top.

I googled Ladybird, or Ladybug (us) to learn that at this time of year the temperature gets much too cold for them and they will head indoors, whether that be a barn or loft or someone's sitting room.

With this knowledge I waited until it showed up again and set the little insect on a houseplant. Maybe it would find food and also a nook within the leaves to fall into hibernation.
I last saw it it was under the edge of the kitchen sink, and I hope it has found a dark quiet spot somewhere inside the cupboard beneath.

So if you see a Ladybird/Ladybug in the home then I hope you will allow it the freedom to disappear into a dark corner to sleep away the winter months, and in doing so, help it to live for another season - to gain yet another spot on it's back -

t.
