Just to play devils advocate (HAHA) people can just die and not exist beyond what they know of themselves. It could even be a personal choice.

I love all the stories from the Other Side..some seen in
'The Astral City- A Spiritual Journey', Portugese, subtitles ...
of the groggy ones in the Infirmary/Hospital...with the relatives outside waiting
for them to gently wake up ....in comas and such when they passed.
('...and such' meaning ODed on heroin for example,
they don't know WHAT is going on!! Haha, but are cocooned for awhile.)

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Death is only a transformation, a sublimation of consciousness, it's another step of the big golden ladder.

We can compare the physical body with a beautiful jacket, some day we have to get rid of the old jacket. After that we may choose to use a new jacket.

The Spirit is eternal, it will always go on, we can call it "living", but the real word that could describe the spirit is existing: The perpetual existence.

After the physical death, we may choose to sleep a bit in the void, it is amazing indeed, we may choose to incarnate in another planet or dimension, we may choose to incarnate again here in this lovely Earth, we may choose to reunite with the great spirit, whatever we truly want, and after deciding our next step we might change again and again.

No you don't 'cease to exist'. You will wake up on the other side, in your own time. Many Souls pass from this world while they are unconscious.

I think ceasing to exist in of itself might not be what we think it is. Perhaps there's somewhere you go even if you completely disappear. It's something to really mull over.
