Not sure I agree with you this time about some aspects said,
If one believes in a God who itself defines what good and evil are then good and evil are not subjective unless one is saying this applies to God as well. There are specific rules to follow you don't have to question. So I wish to leave out dogma.
I'm more spiritual based, after many cycles that go on in each society maybe it's in time what we're suppose to (start) understand about truth that was to be that takes this long to be (accepted) in our eyes. Society matures. This is what I have seen. Look at the individual, don't we try to do and be better then before, to understand what is suppose to be. We are suppose to see like God. As you said we are not only talking about society but society in time. Walk forward in the light not back into the dark. Light and dark, where are we.
The historic periods in society can be observed in individual generations I myself criticize and say should not have been. I know I simply hope we would never return to, ever, like burning witches (people). We simply know if you were to have said no at that time sayiing it's wrong you would have been threatened with the same circumstances. Would one then say ok or nothing at all? It's even what we allowed. That to me is often what we talk about more then anything else having little upon observation nothing to do with being subjective or even levels. I feel one must take a stand and see what is suppose to be. I do not feel good and evil should ever be so flexible. I thought about this for a while and asked this question of myself I think touch upon the idea proposed. This idea is based on the premise every society grows and advances. We can see changes in what happened before and what we do now, so we can make a direct comparison to that change, that which we do now. Society has consciousness behind it, it is consciousness. Many times we were forced to do what happened. Force does not represent truth. Freedom represents true truth, then we can talk about it.
Think in terms of where you are today. Look at the present time. Has society always been this way socially because we have the luxury we can see social changes in society where it is felt to be correct and right "now" over the past. We are talking about nows. If we learn what is good and right in our eyes and is seen I would hope we wold never change letting goodness slip away. We would fight for it internally. If I know what is right today through the experience, then yes the past is wrong, though I can say I am talking from the perspective of experience now, not before. If these people had the experience of today would they say it was right. I think so, but I say it is right today. They will never know. Is what we do today right? Is what we did not do then right? I assure you, today there are things we are working to do we know should be done right. Each generation has their own social issues in the flow of ongoing change.
Subjective, I say more so levels. I would hope we are more advanced. Our ancestors would probable be angry about many of the changes common today but today knowing they are right. Why didn't the past know this.
