Only if your image of a wizard includes waxed jackets and denims plus Goretex boots. Although I do have a wolf's head "helmet".

My wand is made from an apple branch. I believe that it's important for a practitioner to know the properties of the wood that their wand is made from. For example, apple symbolizes peace, fertility and plenty. It's also a good wood to use when working with the fae.

A wand is more gentle than an athame, an athame commands whereas a wand invites.

I am personally attracted to willow woods^.^ But whatever you feel strongly towards can be your wand.

I have always found it curious that, considering that I feel a strong connection to trees, I have never felt comfortable using a wand, lol!
I always use an athame, as that is what I connect with the most when it comes to casting a circle or raising energy......I have been working on a staff, however, intermittently, for a couple of years now....not sure if it will ever be completed....or maybe it is simply waiting for the proper time.....

Not everyone feels comfortable with wands your enegies must agree with the tools. I love athames aswell but unfortunately i had gotten rid of all mine once i had turned to Christianity.. and i regret giving up all my items..

I have more often used a rod. Like a staff, but only like 3 feet. I have had a few that were more like guides than tools. I don't think I've used a wand since I was a kid! I also have a sort of ceremonial knife that I sometimes use (particularly if I need to draw in the ground) but it is not an actual knife (as I have bad history with knives), it is a piece of driftwood that I found at the coast, actually, that is twisted and comes to a dull point. That one does seem more like a special tool.
