Recognizing our mistakes is not the same as self loathing though.... We all recognised we have made mistakes, or most of us do, but we are not all living in a state of ' Self hatred '.
Most just move on and learn from their mistakes, some cannot do this, their mindset doesn't allow them.

Paul's teaching from 1Cor. Ch 10

Quote:
23All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable.
All things are lawful, but not all things edify.
24Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.
25Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience’ sake;
26FOR THE EARTH IS THE LORD’S, AND ALL IT CONTAINS.
27If one of the unbelievers invites you and you want to go,
eat anything that is set before you without asking questions for conscience’ sake.
28But if anyone says to you, “This is meat sacrificed to idols,” do not eat it,
for the sake of the one who informed you, and for conscience’ sake;
29I mean not your own conscience, but the other man’s;
for why is my freedom judged by another’s conscience?
30If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that
for which I give thanks?

Inside me the word right or beneficial mean about the same.

If I seen a dead Humming Bird tomorrow and I did not feed them today
it would feel inside me that I chose incorrectly by not feeding them.

Though I would not hate myself over it.
Since I am not the maker of the Humming Bird, but I could have helped
out of compassion for their suffering.

I think it helps to look at the scripture the other way around. Focus on loving your neighbor, and your self love will begin to grow. As it grows, you will possess a larger surplus of love and compassion to share with those that are lacking the same surplus in themselves. It's easy to go through the motions of showing love and affection. It is commonly carried out as habit and has been taught as "the right thing to do". But, to actually FEEL a deep love in your acts and deeds concerning others instead of obligation is a whole different matter. It's powerful stuff. :)

............. and then there is the child which hates the parent(s). Under the Law, this was not acceptable.

What are Buddhist ethics about?
To live is to act, and our actions can have either harmful or beneficial consequences for oneself and others. Buddhist ethics is concerned with the principles and practices that help one to act in ways that help rather than harm. The core ethical code of Buddhism is known as the five precepts, and these are the distillation of its ethical principles. The precepts are not rules or commandments, but ‘principles of training’, which are undertaken freely and need to be put into practice with intelligence and sensitivity.

' The Buddhist tradition acknowledges that life is complex and throws up many difficulties, and it does not suggest that there is a single course of action that will be right in all circumstances. Indeed, rather than speaking of actions being right or wrong, Buddhism speaks of the being skilful (kusala) or unskilful (akusala)."

This might help you understand the difference....
