Can we experience death in a dream?

I've dreamed I "died" lots of times in dreams, but they always followed through into something else connected. I didn't wake up after the "death" happened.
For instance: 1) being pulled apart bodily. I floated up and felt so free and wanted to tell everyone below how they would be fine if they "died".
2) Drowning. Scared....I felt pain in my chest like it was being crushed, then found I could breathe water! Wow....so I left my dead body behind and did back flips in the water.
3) Bled to death from femoral artery wound. Scary at first, mainly because no-one would come to help when I called them, but then a sleepy feeling, and sudden freedom, and flying away down a road.

Those dreams happened when I didn't even consciously know there was a life after death, and I denied it.
