Don't be upset about it. Trying hard is probably what the problem is.

Would you like an ice cream? What flavour....?

OK while you're deciding what flavour you'd like, you are already visualizing!
Take it from there. That might help...(?)

Yes I know, that's a bit brief. But there are lots of things in life we do every day when we visualize. You are probably not as bad at it as you think. Maybe trying to visualize something that doesn't particularly interest you can be a bit harder. Try something you like a lot first, and see how you go.

visualization

It may be worth trying visualizations that involve a journey. These can be complex but also very simple.
Start by relaxing in a comfortable position and with your eyes closed.
Then after you have experienced relaxation for a few minutes think of a walking journey that you have found pleasant such as walking in the country side, a local parkland setting or a stretch of beach. Retrace your steps and even if you cannot "see" things use your other sensory perceptions such as feeling the texture of tree bark as you sense passing tress or smelling the fragrance of blossoms or hearing bird song or rushing streams or crashing waves. You are bound to have some stronger senses you can use in this way and this will begin to strengthen your overall skills of visualization.

I like to say the brain is inside the heart, and the body is inside the brain. To do visualization, you first need to feel what you want to visualize in the heart.

The brain is extremely powerful, but it's nothing without the heart. So the heart, and brain must be in unison with each other, to enable our intentions. See what you want to see, feel what you want to see, then know what you are seeing.

Try this:
Every day do just one thing. Do this one thing every day for two weeks. It only takes about 5 minutes, if that.
Imagine a satsuma (I chose satsuma because they are easier to peel than oranges!) Then imagine peeling it. See how the skin easily parts from the segments, in your hand. Can you start to smell it?
Imagine putting all the peel down on a plate next to you.
Then separate one segment.
Imagine those little white stringy bits. Pull them off slowly and put them on the plate.
Put the segment in your mouth. Can you taste it? Does the satsuma have seeds, or not. Spit them out on to the plate if you find any. Do this until all the segments are eaten, then imagine taking the plate with the peel to your waste bin.

If you can do this every day for 2 weeks you will be doing great!

If your mind wanders, or you 'blank out' while dong it, and forget what you're doing, it doesn't matter. Don't give up and say "see I can't do it!" Just let it happen, then bring your concentration right back to the next bit of satsuma you haven't peeled/eaten yet.
Next two weeks try something else, like a banana, or something else you like to eat.

If you get a watering mouth while you are doing this, that is fantastic!

In about 2 months you should be pretty primed to visualize anything else too.

Do you ever daydream? I so, you already know how to visualize. When you think of an apple and close your eyes, can you see an apple? A really good technique is to close your eyes and see a lemon. Now take a big bite into the lemon. Think of the tartness of how the lemon juice tastes...feel it in your mouth waking up your taste buds...your mouth should water a little. If you past that test your good to go.
