A Dog's Love

A Dog's Love

When you are old and you are grey,
will you still remember me,
remember the day I went away,
when your love had set me free.

Will you hear my barking on the breeze,
did I flee where you can't follow,
forgive me,I did not want to leave,
or to make your heart feel hollow.

Will you pause at an open drawer,
when you see my collar there,
and recall our country walks once more,
those that you and I would share.

And if in pausing, you shed a tear,
remembering the day I died,
think of this,my spirit is still there,
and forever by your side.

Dog Poem

This poem spoke to my heart. The beautiful bond between a dog and its master.

Although I've mainly had cats, I have had a couple of dogs as well. I'd say the bonds were Always extremely strong- stronger than any I've shared with most people.

Great poem. I had to fight back a few tears too.

A beautifully written ode to a dear friend departed in body, but forever near in spirit and fond memory.

What a beautiful poem.

One is not and can never be a 'complete' person until one has experienced the privilege of an animal's love...
