We see so much self-hatred amongst Society.

When asked about self hatred the Dalai Lama said, "Self hatred 'what is that, he couldn't understand that some people actually hate themselves.

Where does it come from? I personally think some Religions play a big part in this ' State of mind '. Scriptures interpreted wrongly can cause so much Mental Anguish for some that they need Medical intervention to be able to get back on track, so sad.

So how can you love your Neighbour as yourself, if you can't love yourself ?.

Great question Sky. I think depression and self hatred are the biggest unspoken issues in society.

What I Iearnt about the Golden Rule is, that it means what you put out is what you get back. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. That's Karma. If you hate your neighbor, you will eventually attract neighbors that hate you.

This commandment is less of a command, and more a statement in reality. It teaches you the importance of loving your neighbors.

Self hatred on the other hand is where people become too entrenched in their ego (fear, guilt, anger) and feel separate. Overtime this sinks into the unconscious and then we project this onto the neighbour without us even knowing. Tricky hey.

Where as seeing Christ in everyone, helps us to see it in ourselves. Then we open ourselves up to except God's unconditional love. Simple, but not easy.

Yes I also see this as a statement rather than a Command-ment, you can't force someone to love their Neighbour.

According to the bible there are Three types of love, I wonder which one you use to love your Neighbour when you can't feel love for yourself ?

When you look at the idea that the origins of the Commandments came via Moses from Egypt - Kemetism loving your Neighbour as yourself isn't even mentioned, it's obviously been added on somewhere along the line.

I see difference in opinions too, and that's fine! but I also see a bit of hatred towards some who one, might NOT agree with their Religion or religious beliefs. all ANYONE has to do is sit back and read the posts. but again sky, you take my words and use ONLY what you chose to use, to make your point valid against myself. now I know you read the part when I said "there are some Loving People here, both Christians and non Christians." but because you chose to go on another personal attack, and chose NOT acknowledge that part. sky, stop!

In Koine Greek, there are 5 words that get translated as love. The one love not mentioned in the Bible is Eros.

Hello Members

Last warning this is the "original" question. No more issues or things that we have to remove or I will close this thread.

Love Your Neighbor as yourself.

This Commandment must be extremely hard to follow for those who don't love themselves.

All the excuses I may make for myself:
"I was short with that person cuz I have such pain today...I'm cranky."
So I forgive myself and drop it...I do with others .
"She was really awful to me for no reason ---she must have had a really hard day!"
And drop it, letting them off the hook.

Doesn't mean I want to hang out with that person anymore, however!
But, I love my neighbor (forgive them) as I do with myself.
Dunno, if people relate to that as loving - I do.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

I like to rephrase "love your neighbor as yourself" into "love your neighbor as BEING yourself". This is a step to removing ego as the separating factor between your neighbor and one's self. i.e. we must come to believe that what is good for our neighbor is ultimately and actually good for ourselves. The intention is to remove duality in favor of unity.

NICE POINTS!

We expect the other person to 'make the first move' but actually we are expected to 'make the first move' in that of loving our neighbour with agape love.

Of the five Koine Greek words used for love, all are used in the New Testament except Eros. The Koine Greek word used the most for love is Agape love which is one of Jesus' main teachings.
