Autumn in my garden ... wet wet wet ... the heavens have opened on the east coast of Australia this year ... the top pic is a shot of a stained-glass eagle I have hanging in the window of the garage, which would let in a whole lot more light in if I bothered to get up and clean the cobwebs lol ...

Your garden is beautiful sound :)
I need to start up my garden now. It is spring here in Chicago, the weather will most likely be 50s-60s F for awhile now. Anyone have any ideas on what flowers, vegetables or herbs will grow in a shady place?

Thank you LadyVirgo ... welcome to the thread :) ... Madonna Lillys, Begonias and most ferns will do ok in the shade but still need part sun or at least good light. We have a huge canopy over a good deal of the garden and those plants do best. Bromeliads will grow in the shade too but if it is too dark they wont flower. We also have a chain of hearts which has grown well and the maiden hair fern especially does well.

I like all the different varieties of Hostas for when it comes to shade planting. And bleeding hearts - they do poorly in sunlight.

Begonias thrive in the shade, very nice in a hanging basket;)........also fuschias like partial shade.

Picture this. My mom had a huge garden in back - and on the side of the garage grew a lilac tree with a big bleeding hearts plant and sweet williams nestled under it. I wish I had a picture of that.

Sounds gorgeous SG :) I am not sure I have seen a Lilac tree but it sounds divine too! I love bleeding hearts ... mine hasnt flowered for a while though ... maybe it has been too wet underfoot ...

I have lots of fushias, some of which are very old plants of my grandmas ... the ones which get more sunlight do flower more and the flowers last for much longer ...
