Seems the discussion formed naturally in another thread ;)

The Video Game Experience

Arguably the most popular format for games are those from the "first person" perspective, where you experience the game through the eyes of your game avatar and the experience is very much like you are actually there having the experience.

Now imagine 5 or 10 years in the future, where technology has grown to the point where you could immerse yourself even deeper into the game. Maybe you would be wearing a helmet that would make you feel like you are in fact in the middle of a virtual world. You look all around you and you are in the game and just with your mind alone you are controlling the actions and interactions of your game avatar. It would really feel like you are in and part of that world.

To build such a game, you would first develop the basic physics that will make up the world. The coding that will tell how the different "physical" elements of the game can react together. You would populate the world with creatures that will have a basic programming that will allow them to interact with the other elements of the world they are in. Giving them basic survival skills. Some of the creatures would need more advanced programming and are given basic artificial intelligence so they could interact on a higher level with players and other elements in the game. You would then keep creating more and more advanced AI creatures until you get to the point where you develop what will become the avatar that the game player will use. In this avatar the player will enter the game and control the avatar with his own consciousness.

The game would be very compelling and people could really get caught up in the game play "lose themselves" in it for significant amounts of time. Many people do that already with the games we have now. So it is not hard to imagine this would be even more compelling in a game that would be that immersive.

Now imagine this has all been done before, just on a different scale and medium.

Imagine a plane of conscious energy. The consciousness on this realm, while independent, dont have any real dimension or separation, their communication would be akin to telepathy. This realm does not have "time" as we know it, in fact the whole physics of this plane are different than we experience, so it is hard to draw real comparisons.
Now imagine these consciousnesses decide to build their own "game" but instead of using technology like we do, they decide to build a world of 3d space. They form basic elements of 3 dimensionality, those elements they "program" with physics that cause them to interact with each other to form more and more complex elements. These complex elements they program further to give them basic interaction skills that will become the basis for life. As these life forms become more and more complex, they develop into beings with basic intelligences similar to the consciousness itself. These eventually become so complex that the consciousnesses can "enter" these 3d creations and experience a world outside of their plane, they can experience a 3d world, with all its physical experiences.
You can imagine how compelling this would be for them. They would have experiences that they could never have in their previous state of being.
Perhaps these consciousnesses would get do deeply immersed in the game that they forget their previous existence and actually believe they exist only in this 3d world.

See where I am going with this?

Now We are those consciousnesses believing we are physical 3d world beings, who are now reenacting the experiment again with our technology. Building new worlds for our consciousness to immerse itself in and explore/experience.

Afterlife/Reincarnation/etc.

When we play a video game and the game is over, we either return to our original state of consciousness outside the game, or reenter the game with a new life.
Sometimes the consciousness may have really enjoyed the game they played and decide to play it over again from the same point of view. Remembering the previous game would give a feeling of deja-vu while in the game.

Parallel dimensions

Who is to say that the primal state of consciousnesses did not create more games, and the individual consciousnesses can play in several different games. From the game avatar point of view, if they catch a glimpse of a different game, it would be like looking into a parallel universe where things may be similar, but different.

I could go on and on with this.....but I think this is enough to throw the concept out there and have some fun with.

Sounds like an ethereal nature to me.

Sounds like the human understanding of the ethereal nature of reality.

Sounds like the natural cycles of evolution, mimicking the source, until it returns to its reality.

The manner in which we may reflect an understanding of the unknown, has always included the modern influences of life. But while what is understood remains the same realizations in reality, the means of reflecting such becomes only relevant to the times in which they are shared.
