overcoming the illusion of specialness
Two quotes from ACIM are:
'You were at peace until you asked God for special favor, for you made of Him an unloving Father.'
And, 'If salvation is the end of specialness, and I assure you that it is...'
By 'specialness' and 'special favor,' it's talking about the idea that some people are 'better' than others and that God loves some people more than others.
ACIM seems to be saying that this false belief in inequality is part of the entire problem people have.
Yet Jesus says through Paul Ferrini, 'God loves and values everyone equally.'
And a few more quotes from ACIM are:
'Everyone is equally worthy of forgiveness.'
'God is not partial. All His children have His total love.'
'You have attacked your own glorious equality with God.' (saying that we're equals with God)
The following affirmation would probably be helpful in overcoming the illusion of inequality:
'All beings are equals, and God loves all beings equally.'
Also, consider the great suffering that can come from illusions of inequality. Slavery, the Holocaust, exploitation of women, and countless tragedies in the personal lives of people clearly demonstrate the dangers of false superiority (what ACIM calls 'specialness') and the importance of embracing the truth of equality and embodying it in a social context.
