I can't interpret the cards?

So I gave myself a tarot reading a couple times and everytime I do I can't interpret the cards. I don't feel my intuition tell me anything so I end up reading the card definition. Is there anyway I can get better at interpreting the cards to make the session more powerful?

Have you ever thought of trying oracle cards instead of tarots? Oracles seem to be more intuition-based from what I have been told..maybe you just need to find a deck in which you are connected to.

If you are not familiar with tarot cards, it can be good to reference books. There is so much to learn with tarot. Use the definitions as guidelines. Are you just beginning with the cards?

It could be that you lack a strong connection with the deck too.
I have many decks and some produce great readings and some are just out in left field. lol. Its important to find something that resonates with you on an emotional level.

Like alexa said, oracles are great too. They are usually easier to read, in my experience.

What helped me was memorizing short key words to go with each card, for instance 3 of swords+ heartbreak, 3 of cups+ celebration and so on....after that the best thing I would suggest is to look at the cards, place yourself in the position of the figure of the card, for instance 5 of cups this person is usually looking down very sadly (depending on the deck) if that was you, how would you feel?

Enter the card and be there, say your standing by the tower in the tower card, how would feel if you were in the card looking up at the tower? Does it seem chaotic to you? look at the falling people, what is happening in this card? What does the tower represent?

Studying card symbolism will also help you, the colors on the cards, the flow of the water, mountains, fish in the page of cups and so on...

Just some thoughts....

Good tips there PatriciaJ. I have a set of Angel Tarot. They are beautiful cards but i do always have to refer to the book. And then i think hmmmm. But maybe you are right, maybe trying another deck or oracle is a good idea.

How are oracle diffrent to tarot? Thanks :)

The difference is that Tarot cards contain a major arcana and minor arcana. & oracles do not.

Oracle cards follow a theme, like angels, fairies, saints, etc.(as well as some tarots do too). Oracle cards refer to any kind of divination cards in general & they are generally easier to read than tarot..so I would recommend oracle cards for beginners.

Amazon allows you to take a look at a few pages of the card interpretation book.

Hmm was thinking about this the deck you are using is it just for you or do you use it for others? Maybe you need to cleanse them. Also try free flowing. Just let the cards speak to you and then look and see what the definition is. I think you will be pleasantly surprised that you can use them.

I guess I should say that its not bad to refer to the books, I mean, that's why they are made, lol. I look at the books a lot b/c I usually find something meaningful in them that I wouldn't have thought of on my own.

But if you were planning on reading for other ppl, you would probably want to develop your intuition enough so you wouldn't have to tell the person to wait while you go look up something, lol.

Thank you for all of your advice guys! I think the problem is that I am using the Rider Waite tarot deck but only because I was told that it's the easiest deck to use haha. I had cleansed and put my energy into them but I never really felt a connection. I'll try and start looking into purchasing some oracle cards soon. Thank you all once again. :)

Lol. The original RWT was one of the first decks I bought, and I hated it! I got rid of it pretty quickly.

There are other tarot decks that are much easier to use and most are based on the RWT blueprint, but tweaked in different ways.

If you go to aeclectic.net you can see tons of different tarot and oracle decks!
