What's the scope of Luke 10:19?

'Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you'

What's the scope of this?

You must have typed that wrong...this is 10:1_

1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him
to every town and place where he was about to go.
................

Oh I see, it's Luke 10:19 (I'll fix that) - but my thing is to include the next sentence. English Standard Version
''Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you,
but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

The scope? Me? Exactly what it says. But that doesn't mean to do what some pastors have done:
go into a cage with venomous snakes, imo.
But, do we have immense power ..oh my yes; power untapped in many people.
After all, Peter walked on water.

and what about the 5th Commandment? I understand that 'and over all the power of the enemy', taken literally, means that any hostile can go for good without committing any sin.

there are other similar passages but I don't feel like hunting right now... the gist of it is, if you learn gods ways and attempt to walk in them, whatever 'evil' you see around you won't be able to do you lasting harm. Not that you won't be affected by it, more than you can outlast whatever your thoughts are about it if you are walking in the path of god.

I think (not sure on this) that you can get to a point of not seeing evil around you after all if you do that long enough.... not that what you see isn't there, or that it can't touch you some ways, just that you learn it is 'safe' to interpret it differently and react differently to it than you supposed you had to when you were talking to others about the subject.

But that is way more advanced than anywhere I am lol!

The first four ommandments define how God wants us to show love for Him. This Fifth Commandment tells us to honor our Mother and Father and is the first about loving others....

My interpretation is the right to self-defense under God's authority and protection. This is why I was interesting in the scope.

Gospels do not supersede any Commandment, though.

The Admin has asked when quoting - to quote only 2-3 sentences.

and yet on the other hand... part of jesus legacy was that he invited his own death even knowing it was coming... and said he did it out of love...
