Color Alchemy

“Of Our Mercury which is the Green Lion Devouring the Sun”

“I am the true green and Golden Lion without cares,
In me all the secrets of the Philosophers are hidden.”

Any theories/insights into the significance?

P.S. I always saw it as a symbol of a human tendency to destroy the true value of consciousness through unbridled desire but the associated text seems to contradict this. Perhaps it's a case of "A fool who persists in his folly will be come wise". To ignore carnal desire is leads to suppression and denial and therefore the only way to see 'truth' is to go right into ones passions and "pass through the valley of death" and realize peace on the other side.
I don't believe that, it's just an idea

I was really into alchemy some time ago. I was even part of a secret forum where people tried to make the stone. It's a really tricky world. Symbolism and metaphors mixed with direct lies and disinformation to confuse the ones who are not initiated. I eventually gave up. To hard to pierce trough for me.
