I have read that omega 3 from plants is not as readily absorbed and assimilated by the body than, say, from oily fish.

Only if you have estrogen deficiency, but this is very rare in women who haven't reached menopause or had their ovaries removed. Most women have excess, due to xenoestrogens in our foods/air/water (pesticides, pollution, preservatives, plastics etc). There are studies, however, that show that phytoestrogens (the ones found in plants like flax and soy) actually reduce the level of estrogen in the body, by binding to the receptors and preventing xenoestrogens (which are much stronger) to have any effect on the body. This issue is still controversial. I haven't taken flax oil, but I eat flax seed and I had many symptom that resembled excess estrogen. My advice for you is to do some research on flax seed oil before you start taking supplements.

I just thought you might like to know that the Omega 3 in plants, e.g. flax oil are not easily broken down/assimilated by the body.
