What about those of us with CPTSD?

Hi

I would like to bring up what seems to be an evidently smaller group of sufferers of CPTSD (complex post-traumatic stress). Like the name suggests it's complicated being that a serious of traumas occur sometimes over a life time and tend to originate from childhood trauma. Now I was only diagnosed in the last 7 years when taking what I thought was an issue to a psychologist. I've leaned on this professionals for personal development so am not embarrassed with seeking help to improve as a person.

Unlike PTSD, CPTSD deals with a series of fears over a space of time but pretty much the same in how our bodies react to it. Up until diagnosis I wondered why CBT wasn't working on me for coping with things like bullying. I got exhausted with repeating myself my life's events and either freaked out trying hypnosis or uncooperative doing meditation accompanied. I was referred to a psychologist who practised a holistic alternative approach before retiring. Luckily this technique was taught at the local university to those interested in this area. It worked for me as it did to his other PTSD patients who were all war veterans. I wish I could remember the therapy name. But an example was retraining my walking and standing postures to relax, desensitisation by reprogramming peripheral vision and sitting posture. I have now successfully filed away my childhood traumas. Note: like other memories they aren't meant to be forgotten just placed in a non-harming place.

What we have in common is constantly being in a hyper alert state of arousal. We're cats on a hot tin roof so to speak and the trauma hard wires our brains to dysfunctionally file traumatic memory. We're always in survival mode and have our senses switched on to every environment then we're triggered and then the emotional symptoms begin. It explains why some war veterans choose to live in isolated environments for some peace but that doesn't mean they're not ready to fight.

I've had friends and family tell me to just get over it and stop living in the past. I have recently had two extreme traumas after another that has triggered my hard wiring to beginning rolling the lucid trauma movies again but of the new traumas. I am about to try EFT with a therapist claimed to have much success with when apply it to PTSD patients. I have relocated to escape for safety from my traumatic event where not many practitioners specialise in PTSD let alone CPTSD. I hope it helps.

I've never heard of complex post traumatic stress but this sounds like some individuals I know who can't seem to get a hold on their trauma and seem to flounder in any kind of therapy. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.

? Not sure if your comment was meant to come off as offensive. My post was to bring awareness & let those with both conditions know that EFT & this other alternative therapy in the past I can't remember the name of have been proven to work not just for me. But thanks for your contribution as it just adds to other types of awareness already brought here. God Bless X

jokes-aside, that sounds like somatic therapy. I've not had somatic therapy, but have heard people talk about it. I think this goes to show how different therapies help different people at different times of their personal healing.
Thanks for sharing.

No, my comment was not meant to be offensive in the least bit. I was genuinely grateful for your contribution. And I wish you well with your healing. I hope you can find an alternate source of therapy that will help you. I hope you don't mind the hug. If not, disregard it.
