Why do some people spell vegan "veg*n"?

Sometimes on the internet I see people spell Vegan "Veg*n".
It confused me a bit and I'm curious as to why they spell it
that way. If someone could answer that would be cool.

Thanks :)

Usually Veg*n is written so the writer wont to have to write the longer term for what they mean which is 'Vegetarian or Vegan'.

Maybe its like a swear word...like blankety-blank....lol

I know certain carnivores who would probably spell it that way for that reason

That made me giggle
How terribly lazy! But no, it does make sense to use it as an interchangeable term. I thought it was like a taboo word, a curse word.

It's a short form to include all vegans and vegetarians.

If you are typing either vegetarian or vegan multiple times, it is a matter of efficiency. If you are making a statement that could include either of those two groups, it is a matter of efficiency. Not laziness dear, efficiency. It takes less time, less effort, and I can get on to other things. Sort of like your lack of a capital at the beginning of your statement "just easier for lazy people".
