Viro, the best way to get to full lotus is to practice and stretch in Half-lotus, which is where you bring just one of your legs/feet up into the lotus position. Most people can do this. Then alternate them. While in half lotus, gently apply pressure to your knee, as it is comfortable, and push it down until your hips have enough stretch for you to bring the other leg over to sit in full lotus. This takes most people about 3 months or more to fully get it. It just depends on your individual anatomy.
Hope that helps.

yeah thats what i've been doing for a while. It has been working out okay so far, but it is so tight for me that my feet lose circulation once in a while, so i was wondering if there were any looser positions that could help me do the same thing.
i was also hoping to learn some new yoga positions, because i'm getting bored with the few that i know :)
also, does the butterfly stretch help with this? It seems like it would, but i have not noticed too much of a difference

For some strange reason I've always been able to do the full-lotus... Like others have said the best way to get into that position (so I've been taught) is by working on the half lotus first.

When you watch tv, get off the sofa and sit on the floor, pop into the half lotus for a few mins then get back on the sofe, then a bit later try again, soon, after a few short weeks, you will become more flexible. it is about the use of time, you can do it, and it will teach you that yoga is life not just a class once a week.
sorry if that sounds harsh it just popped out like that, it isnt meant harsh
