Tarot vs. Oracle Cards
What is the difference?
Which do you prefer and why?
I have never had a reading with tarot or oracle and I am curious as to what type of information I might gain and how accurate each might be.

uhmm... let's see if I can explain myself well here (English is not my 1st language).
I use them both, Tarot and Oracle cards. I like Tarot better. Tarot is a little more complicated (there's a lot to remember) but in my opinion it gives a lot more in depth information in a reading.
Oracle cards feel to me like uplifting messages, it's more for guidance and advice. I'm sure there are decks out there that could be a little more deep but that's how it feels to me.
For my daily guidance I use Oracle cards, it works to get the feeling of a situation too. But if I'm looking for answers and deep meanings I use Tarot.
So I prefer Tarot :)

Lengar's response is excellent. I would add that oracle cards don't advise on actions or outcomes, but tarot can.
There are few oracle decks that I like. Most are fluffy and nothing more than money-making devices rather than something of real substance. The oracle cards that I appreciate are ones that are one-of-a-kind, not variations on a theme, and that have deeper value than just surface, "fluffy" stuff.

Thank you Lengar79 and Everly!
So it would seem that they both serve to be insightful yet in a very different way.

Just wanted to add my two cents here what Lengar and Everly have posted is exactly what I would have said.
So, yes, I suppose they both have their uses but I really prefer the Tarot.

Everly, what oracle deck(s) would you personally recommend?

My favorite is "Angelic Messenger Cards" by Meredith Young-Sowers.
I resisted the cards for years, despite my deep appreciation for Meredith's work. (Her first book blew me away.) This will sound snotty, and I truly don't mean it that way, but I'm just not really into the angel thing. And just the name of the cards was a turn-off. But finally, something shifted and I bought them. They are some of the most beautiful cards available and were very, very different from what I expected. I still don't like the name, but that's because I don't think it says much about the cards at all. The cards are stunning photographs of flowers and the messages aren't sappy and overly sentimental.
When I do readings with tarot (I don't always use cards, but some clients prefer it), I always end the reading with a one-card draw from this deck and it has always, without exception, added something precisely pertinent to the reading. I use it as something for the client to remember, to consider and to "take away" from the reading. (They don't get to keep the card.)
You can find more information at Meredith's website, "Stillpoint".

Everly ~ Sounds like the Oracle Card is a nice addition to the readings you give.

Hi Smile
Spirit showed me a different way to use Tarot - three rings - which how the Life Path of a person - sort of like an Astrological Chart.
* Inner most ring which is usually 2 or 3 cards shows talents/abilities the person came into this life with- sort of the core of who they are.
* Second or middle ring is abilities/development they have accomplished in this lifetime as planned from pre-life bucket list.
* Outer or last ring shows what still on the list and not developed yet.
These reading have been very profound for the people I've done them for and personally brought me tons of healing, as I, for the first time, understood what each member of my family was working on this life and what their challenges were - it made my whole childhood make sense for the first time and also the 'where and why' of what they are doing now in life which had been very mysterious and illogical to me before.
Otherwise I use Oracle cards in a sort of back and forth conversation - not spread style. It's sort of a direct channeling from the persons higher self to my higher self allowing a conversation style in question answer format with advice and suggestions thrown in.
I work with Oracle 5 decks - two are Collette Baron Reid decks, 1 is a Fairy deck (actually mentions alternate realities, portals and other realms unlike most oracle decks) and the last 2 are decks I made as the other decks were not sufficiently converting topics Spirit and I are working on these days.
If I need something hard core I do Runes. They are a bit the 'Fist of Odin' though, so I don't like to use the Runes for other people because the news has zero 'padding/fluff' and if the Runes say something is SO, it's very hard to change the decision lines that lead to the predicted result. Whereas Oracle cards can really help with all the micro steps and mind sets leading up to the fork leading to the predicted future and there's many points where results can be changed with the 'gentle counseling' of Oracle Cards.
