Unusual coincidence

Hi all,

Three years ago, I started working at my current company. I went for a training at one of their overseas offices and met a male collegue. This guy who happens to be much older (and single at the time) asked me to hang out for drinks after work, which I declined. He asked me again a year later when I visited and I again declined.

He shortly after met someone (younger than him). He briefly broke up with her late 2018 and suddenly went back to chasing me again, but given we don't live in the same country it was just business. I'm aware they got back together at some stage since he told me in January. I've thus backed off completely (not that he's aware I like him), not sure if they're still together.

I once checked his social media and saw what his girlfriend looks like.

I was visiting his office this week. He however would keep popping at my desk every 2 hours or so, pretending to speak my native language (which he doesn't speak) and saying he hates that he doesn't speak it blah blah. He even joked about sitting next to me watching me work..

During this trip, one of his colleagues kindly invited me to a work event that night. This guy was attending too. It was my first outing with them since I started 3 years ago. So, after work I went to buy an outfit. I got into a store the first time, but couldn't find anything. Something in my gut told me to go back to that store, so I went ..

I was looking at a pair of pants on the display and as I looked up, a woman looked up too and it was his girlfriend ... She has a distinctive face, so it was easy to recognize her. She was literally 5 steps away from me and she was starring at me. I've never met this girl, never seen her in real life, don't know her. There's about 2 million inhabitants in that city and I visit about three times a year, yet I had to bump into her on that specific day.

To top it all, that same night, I couldn't find the person who invited me, so I spend a good bit hanging around with the guy which was not part of the plan. The truth is I'm resigning and quite frankly, although I have a huge crush on him, I'm not chasing at all as I respect the possibility he may still have someone. I know she's in the picture. I don't need to see it in person.

Thus, I don't understand why I had to bump into his girlfriend or ex or whoever she is on my way to an event where I ended up stuck with him instead of the person who invited me. Does this coincidence mean anything?

I believe there are no coincidences in life. Sooner or later, you will be able to join the dots and understand why...

Yeah, I agree, there's a meaning behind such events. Hence, my post ...

I'm just trying to understand the meaning of it all. The word "coincidence" was only used for lack of a more inspiring title.
