Death was never a concern to me all the way through my life.
Until I was told I was dying.
When you are faced with a terminal illness it changes everything.
I'm not afraid of death but I can't see the point of my existence any more . I have served my purpose and cannot contribute further in this lifetime.
As the author says , none of this is about suicide, but some nights I would be happy to slip away in my sleep. I get very tired.
The only thing I worry about with all this is the heartache I know my children will endure when I pass.

My husband used to say after he was told he was Terminal was I wish I will be alive to see my first Grandchild,
The man in the next bed said I wish to see my next birthday.
My husband passed before any grandchild would be born.
The man in the bed passed two days later before he reached his 80th birthday
my husband was 44.
but every second we live we come closer to death,
for some of us it will come a lot quicker than others.

So live for today let tomorrow take care of itself

Fear of the unknown, fear of the process and pain, fear of ''the end''.

Native Spirit...
It's true though isn't it , the second we're born we start to die. ( The body , not the soul ).
And generally we don't go through life worrying about our own mortality.
You have jogged a memory with mentioning the age 44.
From being a very young woman I kept getting a flash of an image in my head of a big number 44. It was red. So I took it to be a warning sign. In the end I convinced myself that I was being told I would die at 44.
Obviously I didn't die, but it was certainly telling me something because when I was 44 I got married .
That number was very tragic for you though to lose your husband so young and can't have been easy at all for you and your children.
And despite my own circumstances I know there is always someone far worse off.
( I think sometimes on here I am able to say things that I cannot and wouldn't tell my children )

Thank you Altair for those kind words .
But it works both ways you know! I have met some lovely friends on here and if it wasn't for the forum my days would be very long given that I'm alone most days. And I don't know if you all know how much that means to me.
In fact it's me that is honoured that you all put up with me ! So Thank you everyone. I really am very grateful.

As we are all aware there is nothing we can do to protect our loved ones from the pain of bereavement. And nothing short of deliberately ending one's life can shorten one's time here, even when we'd sooner see it at an end.

And nobody has any right to tell anyone else their approach to death is wrong. We're never wrong in how we feel.
