A comforting sign at a time of stress

I want to share something that happened last Thursday, right in the middle of preparing for a wake and funeral. My wife's stepdad, Don, passed away on Tuesday after a long and idfficult illness. It was so sad, yet a relief that he wasn't suffering any more.

On Thursday I received a package in the mail. It was from a close family friend, called Joe, in England. I'm English and I only moved to the US in 2005. Anyway, the package contained a ligher and a letter. The lighter used to belong to my mum. It was given to her when she left her job after my dad passed away when I was fourteen. I remember her having and using that lighter! The letter stated that he felt I might like to have the lighter as a memory of my mum.

Joe's wife, Sadie, must have taken the lighter as a keepsake when mum died. Sadie is also gone now. The timing of this is amazing. As we're hurting over losing Don, this arrives in the mail. We feel it's mum saying she knows what we're going through and letting us know she's with us. I'll carry that lighter everywhere witrh me now. It's funny how Spirit works sometimes. When you need comfort they find a way to provide it!

Don't you just love moments like that , these signs that unexpectedly show up? Knowing you are not alone, but that your loved ones are with you, especially in times of grief and sadness.

Hope33, thank you for your kind words.

Adrienne, YES! I love when things like that happen. Moments like that strengthen your spirit in it's hour of need.

Thanks. :) It just shows our friends and family in Spirit are watching over us and find ways to give comfort when it's needed.

That's lovely, and I do believe that is possible. When my own mom passed a couple of years ago, an aunt that I wasn't in close contact with sent me a picture of me as a kid with some cousins, which was nice - but in addition there was the special treat that my mother was somewhat in the background of the picture smiling. Likewise, I felt that my mom prompted the sending of the picture, as if to say "I'm still watching on." My best wishes and condolences to you and your wife.

A nice story. Glad the lighter brought you a bit of light when you needed it.
The wonders of spirit ...
