Trapped in Cathedral

Last night I had a dream where I had an altercation with two thugs over a car (i think). They were looking to beat me up or hurt me. I somehow started flying and ended up inside a huge cathedral. I flew up to the pinnacle of the cathedral but I got stuck there. There was no way out or exit. I could see all the way down to the ground and see these thugs looking for me. An old woman then came into the scene who worked at the cathedral. She was the only one who could get me out.

I wondered if this dream may be related to anxiety? This is something I used to suffer alot from. Its much better now. This is the first thought that come to mind.

Any insights would be helpful. Thanks!!

At least it seems like you are running from something, and getting stuck within maybe a belief. Maybe the flying tells you that you are beginning to soar higher, yet you are pumping your head at that self imposed upper limit? glass sealing? whatever it is called Just a thought. Maybe the old woman represents compassion, and that is what will lead you into safety.

It seems like a dream of wrestling with one's faith, spirituality or path. Taking flight lifts you higher and brings wisdom, often in the form of the greater perspective. The two thugs are aspects of you and other ways of thinking or previous pathways and old ways of being. You no longer want to entertain those old aspects, but have yet to confront them within you and make peace.

I tend to see flying more as an escape, not grounded, not dealing with the two thugs directly. The huge cathedral is to me the holy of holy's, the higher chakras in the head, ajna and the crown. The thugs still exist and haven't been dealt with, but spirituality and being in the head is not solving the problem either because they're still looking for you.

The old woman is probably your intuitive wisdom, I would personify her as ajna, a part of you that does intuitively know what you should be doing and how you should be doing it, the still small voice that whispers to us sometimes in dreams and intuitive moments.

And the thugs, 2 aspects of your persona that are running your show, that you want to suppress and ignore and spiritualise hoping they will go away, but without facing them they won't go away.

There's no way forward, perhaps you're feeling stuck and don't know what else you can do to improve how you are, your perceived 'faults', the only way is to come back down to earth and do some good old fashioned self-analysis a la psychology, your dreams would show you the way, being the loudest voice of the old lady.

i like all the contributors ideas, even your own TonySG (about anxiety).
it may be that all of the characters are representing aspects of yourself.
the two thugs would be 'combative elements' which don't take orders,
and who won't back down. the car is your vehicle in life, your physical form...
which of you is in charge of things? the conscious, choice making aspect of
you has escaped the conflict, by retreating into the "lofty ideals" that you
hold sacred [the cathedral]. i figure that you're wanting to resolve things
peacefully, between the conflicting ideas that compose you, but you're
uncertain of how. the old woman is a 'maternal influence' which exists
within you, maintaining the cathedral perhaps. listening to her voice may
be the the key to resolving your 'inner conflict' and restoring peace.

your dream seems to have ended without resolution, but i have the
sense that you can straighten things out without undue difficulty.
