The place used to be flooded with water. Thats why they forme dint eh first place. They work tirelessly to keep the water out

That's such an amazing place. If it were possible to have eco-tourism safely, and without doing any damage to the site, it would be a wonderful place to visit.

Of course, we ARE talking about crystals made of gypsum (selenite), a mineral so soft it can be scratched with a fingernail. I could easily imagine that too many people wandering around stepping on everything would cause wear-and-tear that could spoil some of that beauty, and that would just be wrong. So instead of having tourists visiting, maybe we're better off if just a few skilled photographers head in there to ply their trade, so we can all "see" the amazing site without doing it any harm.

It's a wonder of nature, and I hope it's preserved intact for all time.

It is. That's why it was flooded with water at first. They pumped out the water as part of the mining process, and SURPRISE.
