The Power that Is

This is a story from Chicken Soup for the Soul. A 10 yr old boy been taking beatings from his dad for an extended period of time. His dad would hit him with a belt in the cellar. Away from prying eyes, trying to hide the sin. Once again the kid does a minor thing wrong in the eyes of the father. As the boy heads down the cellar steps, he says God I'll take this beating but please let it be the last one. As his dad raises the belt above his head, a super bright light appears between the two. The father immediately drops the belt and covers his eyes and runs up the stairs. It's all about the ask. God waited and waited all the other times. Finally the ask from the boy released the power of God's... mercy.

The boy’s hurt probably didn’t end that day. Trauma lasts until it’s resolved. But I’m glad he was saved. Nobody deserves abuse

Kind regards,

My interpretation is that "to get out of your predicament" you have to realize that you need to wish for, ask for, believe in that.

Beautiful story. It’s when the boy first accepts his fate stoically and then, in childlike trust asks (affirms, creates) God for relief, that his destiny changes for the better.

Of course, as CosmicWonder said, healing takes awhile, the simplest way perhaps being a recognition that each soul acts as of their present state of evolution and knowing no better, can do no better. With this recognition comes acceptance, obviating the need to forgive for self-healing.

Hi unseeking seeker,

Yes everyone at their own “pace”. Forgiveness can be tough at early stages. Healing trauma can take a lifetime when first facing that problem. But there might be hope for the future, when you know your way around better (having solutions that were not there before, because you had to create them).

Kind regards,

CW
