However, as wstein suggested - this is probably not something you should bank on. While it may be true the spirit can depart before the cause - people die in pain and while suffering. It is a sad and unfortunate truth. Why they die this way we may never know. My father died slowly and in pain. I always felt his suffering was prolonged because he was a survivor, did not wish to give up without a fight and he unnecessarily clung to life.
