kundalini kriya yoga vs Kriya ...

Hi everyone,

the last few days , I have been seeing the word kriya and somehow getting interested in it.

Does anyone know if kriyas and kundalini yoga are the same thing, just different terminologies?

I searched online and found some contradicting statements on kriyas. On one hand, kriyas are spontenous movements in the body orchestrated by the higher self. In other words, kriyas is not something you do consciously.

Then I have read kundalini kriya yoga, which basically teaches you, ehh, yoga with an emphasis on breathing.

Could someone enlighten me with their experiences?

I usually attend my power yoga classes , which are a mixture of hatha yoga and ashtanga yoga.

Kriyas describe pretty well what I experience very often but I do not do an accompanying breathing excercise.

l believe Yogananda's Teachings are based on Kriya Yoga - l think most offshoots today might be based on his teachings:

Quote:
The sacred science of Kriya Yoga consists of advanced techniques of meditation whose devoted practice leads to realization of God and liberation of the soul from all forms of bondage. It is the royal or supreme technique of yoga, divine union.
Kriya Yoga was lost for centuries in the dark ages, and reintroduced in modern times by Mahavatar Babaji, whose disciple Lahiri Mahasaya (1828–1895) was the first to teach it openly in our era. Later, Babaji asked Lahiri Mahasaya's disciple, Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri (1855–1936), to train Paramahansa Yogananda and send him to the West to give this soul-revealing technique to the world.

Hatha Yoga is mainly for physical health etc.
Kriya Yoga will concentrate on your Spiritual development.

Thank you, again...you are saving me a lot of work!

But, Hatha yoga does believe by attuning the body that is another way
to Union with God.
According to Swami Satchitananda...it isn't merely health, in other words.

There are 3 main techniques in Yogananda's Kriya yoga...as he says ,
a form of Raja Yoga ...he dropped one thinking it a bit much
for Westerners...I see his point back then...the LSD/ hippie crowd could have flowed
with it just fine!
It would be an enhancement to the present crowd, imo...they are so super dedicated.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Yes, MH, your right. l was just thinking of the corrupted forms we see today in the west - most of it is oriented towards fitness. Much like tai-chi, l think.

My spontaneous kriyas come with spontaneous breathing patterns too.
